Position Summary

The Project Manager will work closely with the Production Manager, Engineering and Operations Departments and will be responsible for tracking and managing all stages of the project(s) assigned (i.e., research and development, proposal development, design, manufacture, installation, and commissioning).

The primary focus for the Project Manager will be to lead the design, fabrication, testing, and commissioning of systems used to treat liquid and solid waste, primarily in the nuclear industry.  This will typically include skid-based systems, piping, and vessels.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

• Develop and maintain project management matrices.
• Order component parts, maintaining inventory to support projects at all phases.
• Collaborate with department managers from planning phase all the way through delivery acting as liaison between team members, vendors, and customers to ensure deliverables, requirements, schedules, cost and meeting plans are communicated.
• Utilize appropriate tools to plan and communicate project timelines, tasks, milestones, and deadlines.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science (B.S.) Degree in Engineering from an accredited college/university.
• 1-3 years experience preferred in closely related field (nuclear preferred), and 2 - 4 years of related educational training (Mechanical Engineering Degree preferred)

The Accounts Payable Clerk will be responsible for paying all invoices in a timely manner, maintaining, and compiling all payable records. Additionally, the successful candidate will work with vendors and service providers to reconcile purchase orders and invoices. The Mechanical Engineer will have an integral role in helping AVANTech fabricate and implement water treatment systems across the globe. Your role in this process will include the review and approval of various design documents including 3D system models, 2D manufacturing drawings, technical reports, and design calculations. We are seeking a qualified Field Technician to join our team, with a preferred location in or near Knoxville, Tennessee. This role supports the safe, compliant, and efficient management of wastewater and liquid waste streams in accordance with federal, state, and Department of Energy (DOE) requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in procedural compliance and wastewater treatment operations, including radioactive and hazardous waste management.

Job Responsibilities/Duties

Operate and maintain processing equipment at nuclear power plants

Support equipment start up and testing

Collect water samples and perform frequent routine laboratory analyses and reports

Review and interpret technical data and regulatory requirements related to liquid waste streams

Perform frequent plant and equipment inspections to ensure safe and proper operations; detect operational and mechanical problems; perform and/or request equipment maintenance and repair work as needed

A Day in the Life:

• Handle QA records and quality-related documents under explicit direction
• Assemble document sets and partial data packages as instructed
• Verify presence only of required documents (not correctness)
• Maintain QA record logs and trackers as assigned
• Retrieve and stage records for internal use or audits
• Escalate missing or unclear information to supervision

• Perform receipt inspections on incoming materials, including verifying certifications (CMTRs, CofCs), physical attributes, and traceability
• Perform detailed dimensional inspections using calipers, micrometers, heigh gauges, and other precision tools
• Verify tolerances on machined and fabricated components per drawings and GD&T requirements
• Conduct in-process and final inspections on fabricated components and assemblies in the finishing area (e.g., coatings, cleaning, tagging, packaging)
• Review drawings, specifications, travelers, and procedures to determine inspection requirements
• Identify, document, and assist in resolving nonconformances in coordination with QA and engineering
• Maintain accurate inspection records and support data package documentation
• Communicate inspection status and quality concerns effectively with project teams, fabrication staff, and QA leadership

Minimum Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school preferred
• 2+years of experience in quality inspection, manufacturing, or fabrication environment; nuclear or industrial fabrication preferred
• Familiarity with ASME, AWS, or NQA-1 requirements a plus
• Proven mechanical aptitude with ability to understand how components interact in assemblies
• Hands-on experience using manual inspection tools (e.g. calipers, tape measures, micrometer, protractors, thread gauges)
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, BOMs, travelers, and inspection criteria
• Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
• Basic proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe PDF markup tools
• Forklift or material handling experience desirable but not required

Preferred Skills:

• Prior experience inspecting skids, piping, or mechanical assemblies in a regulated industry

A Day in the Life of a Project Engineer

Our customers trust us to help them develop simple, effective and deployable solutions to their most complex challenges.  For that reason, we are seeking an experienced “Project Engineer” in our Knoxville TN facility.  This person will support our customers in developing and managing projects from the proposal phase, through design, fabrication, testing and delivery all the way through start-up at customer sites.  Through all of this, you will be showcasing AVANTech equipment and technologies and demonstrating and maturing solutions for our customers.

• Assist in project planning, proposal generation, and cost estimation.
• Support system design and development, utilizing AutoCAD and/or Creo for 3D modeling and technical drawings.
• Develop work packages for fabrication and work closely with production  and quality teams.
• Ensure compliance with design specifications, industry standards, and project requirements.
• Size and specify pumps, valves and other process equipment.

• Perform basic process and structural engineering evaluations and calculations for pressure, flow, seismic, strength of materials, etc.

• Collaborate with suppliers to specify, quote and procure components and materials.

• Track project progress, manage risks, manage budgets and ensure timely execution of deliverables.

• Support testing and commissioning of systems, including writing test plans and validating system performance.

• Provide light design work for modifications and improvements to existing systems.

Requirements and Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.

5-10 years minimum experience in project engineering, project management, design, or related technical roles.

Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D and/or CREO 3D modeling software is preferred.

Experience within the commercial nuclear industry & DOE is a plus.

Ability to perform basic engineering calculations and evaluations.

Experience in liquid & solid radwaste processing is a plus.

Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple projects and adapt to changing schedules.

Experience in writing process descriptions, engineering specifications and test plans is a plus.

Working knowledge of ASME, ANS, AWS, and other relevant industry codes.

Business development experience or exposure to client engagement is a plus.
